Singapore cinema gets an extra boost this month with a brand new initiative from The Arts House which will see an expanded platform for rarely screened Singapore films.
Frame x Frame is a quarterly programme that features first-run screenings of new films as well as retrospectives of noted filmmakers. It had started off its inaugural season last month by spotlighting
Wee Li Lin
, one of Singapore’s most original and talented writers/directors. Wee Li Lin previously directed
Forever
, which was screened in theatres last year. The movie is
available in DVD
.
Other talented filmmakers who are making their theatrical debuts include Yong Mun Chee with
Where The Road Meets The Sun
in November (16-25 Nov) and Lai Weijie and Elizabeth Wijaya with
I Have Loved
in December (8-15 Dec).
Says William Phuan, Director, The Arts House: “At the heart of Singapore cinema are many compelling local stories told by talented filmmakers, but few have had the chance to watch them on the big screen. We hope that the made-by-Singapore films showcased in Frame X Frame, some of which were not screened before, would appeal to all film-lovers and thus allow the local film scene to grow and flourish.”

The audience will get to meet the directors and writers in person during post-show discussions. The directors and writers scheduled to appear include Wee Li Lin, Lai Weijie, Elizabeth Wijaya, Adrian Tan, and Ho Minfong.
Frame x Frame is presented by The Arts House with the support of the Singapore Film Commission. Tickets for the Frame x Frame films could be purchased at www.bytes.sg. The But Is The Book Better? screenings are free admission.
