Re-watch Your Favourite Movies on Fox Movies Play!

By InCinemas  /  06 May 2013 (Monday)

Always wanted to watch that few classic movies over and over again? Now you can with Fox Movies Play where you can choose your favourite movie, TV series and programmes from a pool of selected titles on your computer, at your own time and environment!

FOX Movies Play (FMP) is an innovative, value added service Fox Movies offers at no additional cost to its premium package subscribers, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the best Fox Movies content on internet connected devices. To enjoy this service, you first must be a subscriber to the FOX Movies Play package, and your pay TV Operator must offer FMP. FMP can be accessed at www.foxmoviesplay.com

As of today, some of the blockbuster movie titles include The Avengers, The Hunger Games, BraveThe Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and even those for the younger ones like Spy Kids 4 and Tooth Fairy.

InCinemas tried the service on our laptops and here’s what we feel about the FOX Movies Play service.

First of all, the interface of the FMP service online is neat and very user-friendly. It offers two languages, mainly English and Chinese to cater to the different needs to viewers but the movie itself is based on it’s original movie, mostly broadcasted in English.

The titles have also been systematically grouped into categories according to its content. Users can browse through ‘movies’, ‘series’,  ‘Bonus’ and ‘Family’. ‘Bonus’ includes shows like UFC matches and documentaries.

The search function isn’t too useful if you only remembered the actor’s name and not the show title. With tags linked to the cast names in the movie description, one would think that the search system will be able to track these tags. Unfortunately, it either directs you to a blank page or gives you random search results, which has little or no relation to the search keyword. Perhaps it’s better to Google for your desired information and then check back to FMP to see if you have the movie in its library.

In addition actors’ names are hyperlinked to a blank page or again, search results with little or no relation to the name, which I honestly thought was a redundant move if it’s not going to satisfy my intended curiosity or needs.

Having said that, I was rather impressed at the buffering speed of the movie. For a 90minute film to completely ready to view, it was almost instantly with a click of the mouse. The player, automatically adjusts to the fastest broadband connection speed possible.

It is designed such that it plays smoothly without buffering, and allows the viewer to pause, fast forward, rewind, view in full screen mode, and also remembers where you left off to finish viewing a title in another session. Even when clicked on different scenes on the timeline of the movie, the image appears almost immediately which definitely enhanced the viewing experience.

In terms of the quality of the clips, depending on your broadband connection speed, it affects the video quality where some seem clearer than the others. If your movie comes out a little low in quality, my advice is not to view it in full screen for the quality just worsens.

Here’s how you can also do the following to maximize your FMP experience:
  • Close other applications on your PC while watching content
  • If the image freezes, rewind and allow to play again
  • Use during times of lower internet demand/usage
  • Use a wired connection if possible
