CODA arrives to Apple TV+ this Friday. Catch the trailer and find out more here!

‘Coda’ is a musical term that describes an independent passage that concludes a composition. The titular acronym is also short for ‘child of deaf adults’ — it refers to the film’s main character, Ruby Rossi, the only hearing person in her family, who dreams of being a singer.

Directed by Sian Heder, the coming-of-age movie premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where it picked up the top honours in the U.S. Dramatic Competition category (the grand jury prize, the directing prize, the audience award along with a special grand jury prize for best ensemble). A trio of deaf actors front CODA: Troy Kotsur and Marlee Matlin play Ruby’s parents, Frank and Jackie, and Daniel Durant plays her brother, Leo. The decision to cast deaf actors in the roles was something Heder and Matlin insisted upon since the project was still in development, according to interviews with The Hollywood Reporter

CODA hits Apple TV+ 13 August, with subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing (SDH) available across languages. See the trailer below:
