Brutal, Bloodied Femme Fatale In the South Korean Action Thriller 'The Villainess'
By

03 Jul 2017 (Monday)
From Sharon Stone in ’Basic Instinct’ to Charlize Theron in
‘Atomic Blonde’
, femme fatales have always been a spectacle in films. While Asia does not lack action thriller films, few has a femme fatale in the leading role. The South Korean film
‘The Villainess’
not only has a deadly female assassin as the main protagonist, but also received a 4-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the 70th Cannes Film Festival in May.
The character of Sook-hee (Kim Ok-bin) seems compelling as someone who was trained to kill since she was a child. The trailer is action-heavy while also intertwining some drama and romance into the mix. No worries, it will not turn into a sappy Korean drama.
Intrigued? Wait until 13 July to find out how the Jung Byung-gil film received the 4-minute standing ovation.
