First trailer of The Grudge reboot is finally here and it is absolutely terrifying!

By Rachelle  /  31 Oct 2019 (Thursday)

Yes, there's going to be a new Grudge movie and yes, it will scare the daylights out of you. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer to the horror film that is slated for release in January 2020.

The reboot stars John Cho, Andrea Riseborough, Lin Shaye and Betty Giplin and is produced by Sam Raimi, who has produced previous Grudge installments. In the director's chair is Nicolas Pesce, known for writing and directing horror films The Eyes of My Mother (2016) and Piercing (2018)

The trailer starts off with a cackling woman and a croaky ghoul before we see Peter Spencer (John Cho) knocking on the door of a house that he hopes to help sell. He enters the house when no one answers. After hearing what sounds like a woman crying, Spencer goes up the stairs and inspects a murky, bubbling bathtub only to be sprung at by a hand that tries to grab him. Spencer seeks the help of a detective to figure out what's going on.

The Grudge is based on the original Japanese horror film, Ju-On (2002) directed by Takashi Shimizu, who also directed the 2004 US remake The Grudge starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.

If you don't mind sleeping with the lights on tonight, watch the trailer below. You have been warned.

The Grudge opens in cinemas 2 Jan 2020.
