Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus star as a couple in family comedy-drama ‘Downhill’

The film, written and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, Downhill is a remake of 2014’s Force Majeure, a Swedish comedy that was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globes.

In the trailer, Ferrell and Louis-Dreyfus star as a couple on a ski vacation in Austria with their two children. During a lunch break at one of the restaurants, the family, along with other customers are threatened by a potential avalanche. Instead of protecting his wife and kids, Farrell’s character, Pete, took his phone and escaped, leaving his family behind. As it turns out, the avalanche didn’t kill the family and Pete now has to explain to his family about his actions.

“I didn’t leave you to be buried,” he claims. “I ran to get help.”

Things changed after that very skiing day, causing a rift in their relationship. Billie (Louis-Dreyfus) still can't get over the fact that her husband was selfish enough to abandon her and their children.

Marketed as “A different kind of disaster movie”, Downhill feels like a comedy, especially knowing that you have comedy greats like Farrell and Louis-Dreyfus, but as the trailer progresses, it shows more of a family drama as the couple tries to reconcile their differences.

Zach Woods, Zoë Chao, and Miranda Otto also star. The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month and is slated to open InCinemas Feb 2020.
