The Lion King sequel lands Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins!

Despite the lacklustre reception for Jon Favreau's 2019 adaptation of The Lion King, the House of Mouse is not backing down as a sequel has officially been confirmed.
Disney has tapped Barry Jenkins - writer-director of Oscar-winning movie Moonlight - to direct The Lion King 2! The sequel is said to further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa's origin story. No further news has been announced as of yet but we would like to assume James Earl Jones will return as the voice of Mufasa.
The 1994 animated movie had spawned sequels The Lion King: Simba's Pride and The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata but neither movies has explored Mufasa's origin story so there's still hope for this original sequel yet.
