'News of the World' puts Tom Hanks in the Wild West

By Rachelle  /  23 Oct 2020 (Friday)

Tom Hanks reunites with his Captain Phillips director Paul Greengrass for a new western movie, News of the World.

Set five years after the end of the Civil War, Hanks’ Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, a veteran of three wars, moves from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, a kind of frontier Walter Cronkite. In Texas, he finds Johanna (Helena Zengel), a 10-year-old taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier and raised as one of their own. Kidd agrees to deliver her back to her family, and the pair trek hundreds of miles into the wilderness in the search for home.

News of the World stars Hanks and German actress Helena Zengel. It is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Paulette Jiles.

The movie will open in cinemas on 7 January 2021.
