A first look at the long-awaited film version of West Side Story was finally unveiled! The film was originally scheduled to open in December 2020 but was delayed a year due to the pandemic.

Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner, West Side Story tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. It stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosalía); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina). The romantic musical drama is the second adaptation of the Tony Award® winning Broadway musical of the same name by Stephen Sondheim.

The teaser, set to one of the musical's hit numbers 'Somewhere', offers a glimpse of the rivalry between the Jets and Sharks, brought together through the unexpected circumstances of forbidden love. Watch it below:

West Side Story opens in cinemas on December 9.
