[InC-Review] 'Stompers' in STOMP puts up a 'Stompingly-good Show!

STOMP returns to Singapore for a 1-week-only showcase, packed with new routines, new choreography and new music!
The Broadway, West End and international sensation is now showing at the MasterCard® Theatres, Marina Bay Sands! Thanks to Base Entertainment, InCinemas got to catch STOMP and their stomping performance. Read our review after the jump!
Stomp is a percussion group that uses anything and everything, including their bodies to make music out of it. This piece of performance is not only entertaining for both the young and old, you’ll gradually find yourself subconsciously tapping away to the beats.

The performers, or 'stompers' use anything to create musical beats, and when we say anything, we mean literally anything. Don’t be surprised if you see them marching in with metal basins hung around their neck, supermarket trolleys thrown around the stage and even Zippo lighters, which left audiences in awe.
What makes Stomp such an award-winning performance is the precision and synchronisation in their beats, movements and overall performance. Each stomper gives a unique rhythm and tone, which adds different levels to the performance. While it is very musical-beat based, I personally would hope for more usage of the stage space, and perhaps playing around with levels. The set alone is rather unique, with a special setup on higher grounds where one of the performance took place.

Having said that, the eight-member ensemble did amazingly well and managed to maintain the high energy level, right from the start till the very end in this nearly 2 hours show. The way they performed showed so much dedication and passion, it transcends to the audiences, making it so infectious you have this urge to clap and dance along. You also have that one comedic character which of course, brought much laughter to the show. You could hear little kids laughing and giggling away whenever the actor stood on stage.
For props wise, they stayed true to using ‘everyday objects’ where you see matchboxes, plastic bags, paint tins and even tubes, each producing a different sound. To put up something what parents call ‘noise’, they created something so magical, I bet those watching were having thoughts to ‘train’ their skills at home and I’m no exception.
For a non-verbal performance that specialises in creating rhythmic beats/music, a 90-minute show is definitely a great achievement with all that heart-stopping acts and talented achievements!
Lastly, I really hoped their curtain-call lasted much longer, like other stage performances where each performer gets ‘their own applause’. These performers surely deserved more than just a round of group cheers. It's an entertaining show I'll recommend for family and friends to enjoy.
