Roger Kwok on being the 'fool' for 10 Years!

By InCinemas  /  07 Oct 2014 (Tuesday)
It’s been nearly 10 years since Hong Kong veteran actor Roger Kwok bagged the coveted ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ award for his role as Ding Sheung-Wong in ‘Life Made Simple’.

It was his 2nd award for the same role as the simple-minded character, widely known as ‘Ah Wong’.

’10 years on and people are still calling me a ‘fool’,’ said Kwok at our interview when he was in Singapore to promote the StarHub TVB Awards happening this Saturday.

He added: “I previously won the awards because of the character Ah Wong. So to be nominated for ‘Black Heart White Soul’ feels like an achievement - I feel like I’ve jumped out of that label.”

Kwok is nominated for ‘My Favourite TVB Actor’, ‘My Favourite TVB Male TV Character’ and ‘My Favourite TVB On-Screen Couple with Kristal Tin’, for his role as the scheming lawyer in Black Heart White Soul.

When asked if has the confidence to be the TV King at the upcoming TVB’s Anniversary Award, Kwok said it ‘didn’t matter’, because he ‘enjoys the process of getting into each character’. “I didn’t think I will be able to win an award again because there are so many upcoming younger actors who are taller and more handsome. I’ve told myself that my chances will get slimmer as the years passed,” the 49-year-old actor explained.

Roger Kwok together with other TVB artistes will attend the StarHub TVB Awards this coming Saturday.

Being an actor for over 20 years, is there a specific character Roger Kwok would like to try in the future, you may ask. Turns out Kwok would like to challenge himself for toned abs like ex-TVB colleague Nick Cheung. Cheung went through gruelling training to attain his six-pack abs for his movie Unbeatable, where he went on to win the Best Actor award at the Shanghai Film Festival last year.

Kwok joked: “I’m working hard”, while rubbing his tummy. “To really train for  six-pack abs requires a lot of determination. If there’s a drama or film that requires me to train for that kind of physique, I will.”

The StarHub TVB Awards 2014 will commence with the Red Carpet at 6.30pm, followed by the Awards Presentation ‘live’ at 7.30pm on E City (StarHub TV Channel 111/ 825), or via StarHub TV Anywhere at www.starhubtvanywhere.com.
