Mark Chao Takes on Multiple Roles in ‘Black & White The Dawn Of Justice’!

Taiwanese-Canadian actor Mark Chao isn’t just the main lead of upcoming action film, Black and White: The Dawn of Justice, which opens in theatres tomorrow.

“My biggest takeaway from this production was to be able to be a part of the screenwriting process,” said the charismatic leading actor at the press conference in Singapore last Wednesday.

“I approached director Tsai to see if I could participate in the script-writing process as I wanted to learn more things. I have truly learned a lot from this experience.” adding: “I’m not just an actor in this movie. I took on the role as an actor’s personal assistant too.” He then jokingly told the press how he would ring co-star Lin Gengxin if he was late on set.

Starring as the courageous policeman Wu Ying Xiong, Chao and other cast members went through two to three months of training to prepare themselves for the movie, to gear up for the action sequences that were required.

Most of the stunts were done by the actors themselves, to which Chao said: “With 3D technology so advanced, face-swapping enhancement is possible too…. there’s really no need for actors to do the stunts. The director enjoys seeing us suffer in pain!”

Director Tsai Yueh-Hsun cleverly rebutted, explaining: “We did prepare stunt doubles for the actors but it’s because the stunt doubles can’t do as well as you (Chao) did!”

Tsai, an actor-turned-director returns to direct the sequel, also played the cold-blooded mastermind behind the series of bomb explosions in the city.

Local actor Christopher Lee had a role in the mega blockbuster film and was ‘warmly welcomed’ by the female cast and crew members.

“All the ladies were very happy to meet him. Everyone said he’s very handsome. He came on set and everybody from the costume department, makeup group, directors team and the producers expressed a kind of…”

“…admiration,” the host prompted.

“A little more than that,” Tsai added, inciting laughter from the crowd.

“I’m not a single bit jealous because even Xiao Xin (Lin Gengxin) and I thinks that brother Lee is really very handsome, super handsome!” Chao exclaimed.
