SINGAPORE: Universal Studios Singapore celebrated its grand opening with a bang on Friday night, with Asian superstars Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, Vicki Zhao, and former "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul making an appearance at the gala event, along with some 1,600 guests.

Abdul said she was "excited to be in Singapore" for the event as it was her first time here in two decades and she "loved the [theme park] rides".

Li, Zhao and Cheung were all smiles as they walked the red carpet leading up to the party, with Cheung taking some time to share what she had been busy with lately.

"I'm actually enjoying myself, learning new things and doing a few things outside of acting because I feel if I ever wanted to achieve anything else but acting, I have to start now," said the Hong Kong actress.

However, she appeared a little distracted when she spoke with event host Chua Enlai soon after and revealed why before heading off for the party.

"It's so hot! I'm sweating!" said Cheung, patting dry the perspiration on her chin, as a combination of the humid Singapore weather and heat from the spotlights took their toll on her.

Local stars like Singapore actresses Michelle Chia, Zhou Ying and Jade Seah turned up as well to add even more star power to the bash.

However, beleaguered ex-California governor, "Terminator" star Arnold Schwarzenegger, terminated his appearance at the event due to personal problems.

"American Idol" 2004 winner Fantasia Barrino, who was slated to attend Friday's celebration, was also a no-show.
