As 'stunned like vegetable' as you are, yes, the viral music video starring Chen Tianwen is going to be made into a movie.

After the release of the ‘Unbelievable’ music video in April, Chen quickly became a household name to many, and recently performed this hit song at a Getai stage. The YouTube video has nearly 2 million views, and is said to have been played on American and Australian radio stations, with Philippines being the next country to have been hit by this phenomenon.

In the upcoming movie, Chen plays the underdog singer who never loses his integrity and belief in his brand of music, overcoming challenges from his mentor and friends. At the press announcement earlier today, Chen is still surprised at the unexpected fame he received through this song, and is ‘excited to see it turned into a movie’.

“When I was much younger, I have always been told not to sing because people said my singing my terrible. Never would I have imagined that my awful singing can turn into something so famous,” said Chen.

The brains behind this is director Ong Kuo Sin, who also wrote the ludicrous lyrics to the song. When asked about his inspiration to it, Ong said it wasn’t anything ‘fanciful’ or ‘magical’. “It’s really very nonsensical. We were just thinking of what rhymes with unbelievable. So words like vegetable and cable came to mind. Whatever we cold think of, we just dropped it in.”

Ong will be writing the script, as well as penning a few original songs for the movie, but shared that those new songs will not shadow the main number. “It’s really to service the story plot.” Majority of the cast members have established singing careers, from Getai singers Liu Ling Ling and Marcus Chin; singer-songwriter Roy Loi and hip hop rapper Tosh Zhang. As to who will be lending their voice to the film, there isn’t a confirmation as to who will be singing what, but one sure thing we know, Zhang will not be rapping in this film.

“The main song is ‘Unbelievable’ so we really want to bring the song to the forefront and push it,” said the Ah Boys To Men actor.

After the newfound fame, Chen is now known as ‘the ‘Unbelievable’ guy’. “When I head out, people on the streets don’t call me by my name, but Mr Unbelievable’!”
