Ask the kungfu superstar, Donnie Yen about his way to a happy marriage, he’ll tell you with a smile, ‘Happy wife, happy life’.
Yen and his wife, Cecilia Wang were in Singapore yesterday to receive the title of Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) brand ambassadors where they will star in RWS’ upcoming advertising campaign, including print and short video that is expected to launch in March.
The campaign will be directed by acclaimed Hong Kong photographer and director, Wing Shya, best-known as the exclusive set photographer and graphic designer for many of Wong Kar Wai’s movies.
Yen may not have imparted his Wing Chun skills to us at the media conference yesterday, but he sure taught us his mantra for a blissful marriage - ‘Happy wife, happy life’.
“It’s important for a married couple to share the same ideals and beliefs of their future. I strongly believe in fate and I am very grateful for my wife and family who supported me all these years. In my opinion, I feel that the man should be more tolerant towards their wife, be gentlemanly, and to listen to her,” he said.
He added: “To be very honest, most of what my wife says is true... because I know what she does is ultimately for my own good.
Wang, a former beauty queen described her husband as a romantic man who will come up with different things to surprise her. “Even when he is busy with his film shoots, we will make it a point to keep in contact and communicate with each other,” she added.
Yen’s current film, Ip Man 3 is still showing in cinemas, and has surpassed big film titles like Star Wars: The Force Awakens for two weeks, to be there no.1 movie in Singapore.
“I’m flattered and very thankful,” the 52 years-old action star shared. “I know that the franchise have a strong following and we believed it will do well, but not to this extent. A big thank you for the support from the fans here! They are the ones who motivate us to continue to make better films.”
Yen will be starring in the upcoming Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, and the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Rouge One, a part of the new Star Wars anthology series.
