It’s a sweet spoonful of sugar with the addition of Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep to the 2018’s Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins Returns’.
Variety first reported that the 'Disney's Into The Woods' star is in final talks to join Emily Blunt (who will be playing the titular role) and Lin Manuel-Miranda in the musical movie. Streep is said to play the character of Poppins’ cousin, Topsy, a supporting role that wasn’t in the 1964 classic. The character is likely based off of character Topsy Tarlet, who marries Mary Poppins' cousin Arthur Turvey and becomes Topsy Turvey in the 1935 P.L. Travers book Mary Poppins Comes Back.
Streep took our breath away when she sung in ‘Disney’s Into The Woods’ as the evil queen, which earned her a record 19th Oscar nomination. She is said to also be singing for the part in this upcoming film.
The sequel, known as "Mary Poppins Returns," takes place in Depression-era London, and centers around the now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, and Michael's three children. Poppins returns to her former charges after they suffer a personal loss, and helps them rediscover the joy that has been missing from their lives.
It’s gonna be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
The film is set to hit theatres December 2018!
