By Say Peng  /  27 Dec 2017 (Wednesday)
Founded in 2016, the Singapore Palestinian Film Festival is a non-profit enterprise that showcases the work of Palestinian filmmakers and artists.

The aim of the festival is to provide a viable platform for Palestinian filmmakers and artists to tell their stories and alternate narratives, in the hope that to unite the different communities of Singapore and to engage in discussions around film, art and culture.

This year, the festival will showcase 5 films. Here are 3 of them we think you should check out.

1. 3000 Nights

Inspired by a true story and shot in a real prison, 3000 Nights tells the story of a newlywed Palestinian schoolteacher who is falsely arrested and incarcerated in an Israeli prison where she gives birth to her son. Through her struggle to raise her child behind bars, the film traces a young mother’s journey of hope, resilience and survival against all odds.

2. Flying Paper + Gaza from Within

Flying Paper tells the uplifting story of resilient Palestinian youth in the Gaza Strip on a quest to shatter the Guinness World Record for the most kites ever flown. A short film Gaza from Within will precede the screening of Flying Paper. Gaza From Within is a documentary series from the producers of Flying Paper.

3. Giraffada

When the prized giraffe of Palestine's only zoo dies in an unfortunate bombing raid, a Palestinian veterinarian (Saleh Bakri) persuades an Israeli colleague (Roschdy Zem) to help him with a crazy mission - capture a giraffe from a Tel Aviv safari park and smuggle it back to the West Bank.

The festival runs from 5 -7 January. Tickets are on sale.
