We attended the press conference at Marina Bay Sands on Saturday. In attendance were executive producer Trinh Tran, co-director Joe Russo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr. (RDJ), and Karen Gillan. Here are the highlights.
1. The Big Question on everyone's mind (other than who will die): Will Hawkeye appear in Infinity War?
Short answer: Maybe not for Infinity War.
Co-director Joe Russo reassured audiences that they certainly did not forget Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, who is, Russo pointed out, twice Oscar-nominated. We believe Russo who promised long-term plans for Hawkeye. So we are sure that Hawkeye will appear in the following Avenger movies. After all, in Age of Ultron, Hawkeye was given a major story arc where we saw him with his family.
2. Is Nebula villain or hero?
It was mentioned that Nebula, the adopted daughter of Thanos, is one of the few villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have survived - not just once, but twice in the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Does that mean that she could potentially become a bigger character in MCU?
Also, Karen Gillan shared that when she was asked if she was willing to shave her head for a role in a Marvel film, she said yes without absolutely no hesitation.
We can't wait to see how Nebula develops as a character.
3. Bromance between Iron Man and Doctor Strange
Forget super-smart physicist Bruce Banner/Hulk. Iron Man may have found a new buddy in Doctor Strange, the neurosurgeon-turned-super-magician who can manipulate space and time. Or maybe not.
If anything, bromance was evident between RDJ and Cumberbatch. During the press conference, a journalist asked if there would be a clash of egos between Iron Man and Doctor Strange. Cumberbatch immediately denied the charge, squeezing RDJ's shoulder in a friendly manner. "Get your hands off me!" RDJ deadpanned to Cumberbatch and the room erupted in laughter.
