Happy meals all around for Fox as the studio is poised to win the bid to produce a movie about a true-crime story written by Jeff Maysh and published in The Daily Beast several days ago about an ex-cop who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game, allegedly stealing over $24 million.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reteam for this upcoming crime movie, with Affleck attached to direct and Damon as the leading man. The “Deadpool” writing team of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese has been hired to write the screenplay.
The story, titled "How An Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald's Monopoly Game And Stole Millions" was first documented just last weekend about a former police officer Jerome Paul Jacobson who was able to manipulate the McDonald’s Monopoly game for 12 whole years to win rare prizes, including numerous million-dollar prizes over the years. The wide-ranging conspiracy involves mobsters, a psychic, strip-club owners and drug traffickers.
Sounds like an exciting story, doesn’t it?
Deadline reported that the bidding war was furious, with Universal for Kevin Hart; Warner Bros for John Requa & Glenn Ficarra and Steve Carell and producer Andrew Lazar, and Netflix, which bid for producing partners Eric Newman & Bryan Unkeless, Robert Downey Jr & Susan Downey, and Todd Phillips.
