Singapore's 1st Scream Asia Film Festival to Feature 11 Horror Films

The inaugural horror film festival features 11 feature films and 1 short film curated by Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo and South Korean film programmer Jongsuk Thomas Nam. The film lineup includes J.J. Abrams’ Overlord, Lars von Trier’s The House That Jack Built, and Singaporean film Zombiepura.

Held from 19 - 28 October, the 11 horror films that will be screened at Scream Asia Film Festival will feature films from Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Sweden, Brazil, UK and USA. 

“Asia has an immense thirst for the horror genre so the time is ripe to create an iconic horror film festival here. We hope that Scream Asia will make our little red dot the hub for horror film fans and filmmakers from the region,” said Eric Khoo, the festival’s Creative Director.

There will also be two masterclasses taught by acclaimed horror filmmakers Joko Anwar and Yeon Sang-ho. Joko Anwar directed Satan’s Slaves (2018), which became the highest grossing Indonesian horror film of all time and the highest grossing Indonesian film of 2017. Yeon Sang-ho directed Train to Busan (2016), which premiered in the Midnight Screenings section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and became the highest-grossing Korean film in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Local film Zombiepura has been selected as the festival's opening film on 19th October. Directed by Jacen Tan and stars Alaric Tay, Benjamin Heng and Joey Pink Lai, the movie tells the story about a mysterious virus breaks out in an army camp and turns its campmates into rabid zombies.
