This August, Cathay Cineplexes celebrates the Pioneer and Merdeka Generation by offering special programming with
tickets at $1 only.
In line with Singapore Government’s recognition of the Pioneer and Merdeka Generations, Cathay Cineplexes has curated a slate of 10 movies – 7 local favourites and 3 renowned Taiwanese wuxia classics – to be played on the big screen again at a heavily subsidized ticket price of $1 per ticket.
The screenings will be held from 19th to 30th August, Mondays to Fridays, at Cathay Cineplex AMK Hub, Causeway Point, Downtown East, Jem, West Mall and Parkway Parade.
For Pioneer and Merdeka Generation card-holders, tickets are priced at $1, and will be available for sale at participating Cathay Cineplexes box office counters from 13th August. Standard tickets are priced at $7 and will be available for sale from 13th August at participating Cathay Cineplexes box office counters, self-service kiosks, mobile app and website.

After an argument with his boss, Keong (Jack Neo) quits his job and is unable to get another due to his poor command of English, lack of academic qualifications and computer illiteracy. With bills to pay and a family to support, he goes heavily into debt whereupon his wife leaves him, taking their daughter with her. Ong (Mark Lee), who is facing financial difficulties, borrows money from loan sharks and gets into trouble. Hui (Henry Thia), on the other hand, is a single man who wastes his meagre salary on lottery and pursuing an insurance agent who he has a crush on. How will life determine the fate of these three men?
DRAGON INN 龙门客栈 (1967)

Tsao, the emperor's first eunuch, has successfully bested General Yu, his political opponent. The general was beheaded and his remaining children have been exiled from China. As the children are being escorted to the western border of the Chinese empire, Tsao plots to have the children killed. Tsao's secret police lie in ambush at the desolate Dragon Gate Inn. Martial arts expert Hsiao shows up at the inn, wanting to meet the innkeeper. Unknown to the secret police is that the innkeeper, Wu Ning, was one of the general's lieutenants and has summoned Hsiao to help the children. A brother-sister martial-artist team (children of another Yu lieutenant) also show up to help. These four race to find Yu's children and lead them to safety.
LONG LONG TIME AGO 我们的故事 (2016)

The story spans from 1965 to the early 1970s. Heavily pregnant Zhao Di, the unwanted second wife of an older man, was chased out by her husband's family and forced to return to her own family. She eventually gave birth to twins, Shun Fatt and Su-Fang. As Su-Fang has two moles on her face, which was said to be bad luck, Zhao Di decided to give her up due to the pressure of wanting to build a better life for the rest of her family. With Zhao Di's indomitable spirit, and with the help of her family, they went through adversities, witnessed the changes through the years, and accompanied every step of the nation's growth in its early years.
LONG LONG TIME AGO 2 我们的故事 2 (2016)

Continuing from LONG LONG TIME AGO, Zhao Di takes over her family farm with the help of Ah Long after the 1969 floods. After the government started reclaiming land for development in 1977, licensed owners like Zhao Di are compensated but her brother accuses her of having an affair with Ah Long to get the money for himself. Osman does not approve his son playing in a rock band as he fears the negative influence, causing his son to run away from home. Meanwhile, Ah Hee and Rani decide to get married but their traditional parents object their marriage. As people change with time, will the kampong spirit remain?
WAYANG BOY 戏曲小子 (2004)

Raja, an Indian boy who is brought to Singapore by this Chinese stepmother Emma, is picked on by a class bully, Xavier. The two boys get into a fight, dragging their classmate Shi Han into the mess. The school principal decides to give the boys an ultimatum – to join the Chinese Opera troupe, or face a month in detention. Queen Elizabeth is visiting the school in three weeks and the principal wants to impress her with a multi-racial Chinese Opera performance. Through the mayhem of putting up this multi-racial “wayang” performance, the children learn the meaning of living together as one united people, regardless of race, language, or religion.
A Touch Of Zen 侠女 (1971)

A young scholar lives near a rundown mansion rumoured to be haunted. One day, he befriends Yang, a mysterious beauty hiding inside the mansion. After a night of passion with Gu, Yang reveals that her father, an honourable official, was executed by the nefarious but powerful eunuch Wei. Now, she is also hounded by Wei’s agents, who attempt to eradicate all traces of her family. Gu then finds himself caught up in her struggle to survive. When the agents attack the mansion, he devises brilliant tricks to crush the siege. Though in love with Gu, Yang leaves him after a battle to become a Buddhist nun, trying to leave her past behind. However, after realizing that Gu is in danger, Yang and her mentor sets out to protect him. The army commander sent by eunuch Wei confronts the two, and a battle of carnage between good and evil ensues.
