Is Captain Marvel's Lashana Lynch the next 007?
By Flora / 15 Aug 2019 (Thursday)
It’s a YES, a NO and a MAYBE…
Rumours have been surfacing that Captain Marvel actress Lashana Lynch was joining the cast of Bond 25 as the new 007 successor to Daniel Craig (she is not taking over James Bond, but a new spy that has since taken the 007 codename). While this information has not been confirmed, there is a possibility that Nomi (Lynch’s character) could just be the new spy-in-the-making.
The Hollywood Reporter recently asked one of the film’s screenwriters, Fleabag and Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was brought in to punch up the script, about the development of the film. She responded to the rumours, saying:
“The whole thing has potential to birth new iconic characters all the time.”
So is this a yes? or No? Well, that’s not exactly a confirmation, but it’s definitely not a denial either.
Waller-Bridge, who has multiple Emmy nominations for both comedy and drama categories, co-wrote the Bond 25 script with director Cary Joji Fukunaga and Scott Z. Burns. She emphasized how Fukunaga remains the primary voice behind the highly-anticipated project:
“A lot has been made of me coming on board because I’m a woman, and that’s wonderful. But also I can’t take credit for the movie that was written. It’s Cary’s movie.”
We’ll just have to wait and see…
