Japanese animation ‘Weathering With You’ clinched the ‘All-time No. 1 Japanese animation in Singapore’, with a cumulative total box office of S$1,037,620 in Singapore as of 1 October 2019. The film sneaked from 7 to 11 September and had its general release on 12 September.

Released on 24 screens, Weathering with You crossed the S$1 Million mark in Singapore box office in just 23 days and outperformed another popular animation, Your Name, also by animator-filmmaker Makoto Shinkai by 22%.

The film takes the audience on a mesmerizing journey through the streets of Tokyo as teenagers Hina Amano and Hodaka Morishima weather out the storms to bring light to the city. A classic coming-of-age tale filled with a rollercoaster of emotions, the film straddles between the whimsical and the pragmatic, delivering thrilling adventures and breath-taking scenery in a heart-warming animation.

“After viewing the film, we believed that the film had huge potential. With the huge success of Makoto Shinkai’s previous film, Your Name around the world, we decide to take on the challenge to ensure that Weather With You does just as well, if not even better. We would like to thank our exhibition partners, media, sponsors and marketing partners for their support and for making this possible. We also look forward to more great works from Director, Makoto Shinkai” says Ms Joyce Lee, Managing Director of Encore Films.
