Releasing in Singapore on 25th January, right smack on the first day of the Chinese New Year, Vanguard 《急先锋》is an upcoming Chinese action film starring Jackie Chan, Yang Yang, Ai Lun, Mu Qimiya and Xu Ruohan with a special appearance of Zhu Zhengting.
In ‘Vanguard’, Chan leads a team of elite security guards in a covert international security company called Vanguard where they are equipped with the most advanced weapons. The team-mates collaborate with each other closely and utilize their specialities to protect the overseas Chinese. When an account is targeted by the world’s deadliest mercenary organisation, team Vanguard pulls all the stops to protect their high-profile client. The film packs all the action sequences - from car-chasing scenes to gunfights - where the team travelled around the world including London, Africa, the Middle East and Dubai to film the movie.
Director Stanley Tong has worked with Jackie Chan for over thirty years since Police Story 3: Super Cop in 1992. They then collaborated again for films like Rumble in the Bronx (1995) and action-comedy Kung Fu Yoga.
While filming Vanguard, Chan revealed at a press conference in China that he almost drowned while filming a jet ski scene. He found himself trapped under a rock and was had to wait for the crew to extricate him underwater. Tong said that he cried when Chan was rescued. "When I saw Jackie saved and when he emerged out of the water, I just could not hold back my tears," he told Chinese reporters.
Vanguard opens in theatres 25 January 2020.
