China's breakout box office sensation 'DEAR YOU' sets Singapore release date!
By InCinemas / 05 Jun 2026 (Friday)

Following its phenomenal success in China, the critically acclaimed Chinese indie breakout film DEAR YOU 给阿嬷的情书 will open in Singapore cinemas on 18 June!
Produced on a modest budget of RMB $14 million (approximately SGD $2.06 million) and featuring a largely non-professional cast, DEAR YOU has defied all expectations to become one of the biggest box office surprises this year. Since its theatrical release on 1 May 2026 in China, exceptional word-of-mouth and overwhelmingly positive reviews propelled the movie to the top spot at the Chinese box office chart for more than three consecutive weeks. DEAR YOU has grossed over RMB $1.5 billion after 36 days of its domestic release.
Directed and co-written by Lan Hongchun, DEAR YOU beautifully weaves between two timelines: a grandson who embarks on a present-day search of his long-lost grandfather in Thailand, and a newlywed man who leaves his hometown in China during wartime in the 1940s, travelling to Southeast Asia in search of jobs to support his family. The movie explores buried family secrets and the enduring bonds of love and devotion that were preserved through qiaopi 侨批, historical letters and remittances sent home by overseas Chinese migrants to their families, across half a century.
Mr Lim Teck, Managing Director of Clover Films, said:
We are incredibly proud to bring DEAR YOU to Singaporean audiences. The film's deeply moving exploration of heritage, migration, and the sacrifices of those who came before us resonates strongly with our region's shared history. It has moved millions of viewers in China, and we believe its powerful themes of family, identity and belonging will strike a deeply personal chord with audiences in Singapore.
DEAR YOU is distributed by Clover Films and Golden Village Pictures, and co-distributed by One Tree Holdings in Singapore.
