Japan’s Critically Acclaimed Kabuki Epic Captures International Audience at the Premiere Screening of KOKUHO 《国宝》 at Shaw Theatres Lido!

As part of the SJ60 celebrations commemorating 60 years of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations and the 100th edition of JCC Cinema, Shaw Theatres, along with Singapore Film Society and Japan Creative Centre, held its premiere screening of KOKUHO 《国宝》 this afternoon. The premiere welcomed an esteemed gathering of over 20 ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from various embassies, high commissions and consulates across Singapore to celebrate one of Japan’s most visually stunning cinematic masterpieces of all time. Their presence highlighted the power of cinema as a universal language – one that transcends borders, fosters cultural appreciation and strengthens international friendships through the shared experience of storytelling.

Held at the newly renovated Lido 1 with 312 seats, the prestigious premiere commenced with welcoming remarks from His Excellency Ishikawa Hiroshi (Ambassador of Japan to Singapore) and Mr Kenneth Tan (Chairman of the
Singapore Film Society), who both expressed their excitement in having this remarkable work of Japanese cinema shown to audiences in Singapore. Guests, including the diplomatic community, distinguished guests, industry partners and film enthusiasts, were then treated to a special introduction to the timeless art of Kabuki, which added a unique cultural dimension, before they enjoyed the movie ahead of its exclusive theatrical release at Shaw Theatres from 23 July.
