A closer look at THE AVENGERS Superheroes with InC-Character Stats

By InCinemas  /  13 Apr 2012 (Friday)

Since the release of IRON MAN in 2008, Marvel Studios has teased us with a possible superhero epic where major Marvel superheroes would team up with each other to fight against a global threat. On 1 May 2012, that mouth-watering scenario will become a reality.

Forget Labour Day! This 1st May will be 'The Avengers' Day in Singapore! In the build-up to that highly-anticipated moment of truth when the theatre becomes dark, as you snug yourself comfortably in your seat with your friends around you, waiting for the 'Marvel' logo to appear and the movie to start, InCinemas presents a quick look at the six superheroes (including Hawkeye and Black Widow) that will appear in the movie!

Yes, we will also show the major statistics (e.g. strength, fighting skills, intelligence) of each character. These statistics are inspired by the official character stats by Marvel, but here we compare each character only with those in THE AVENGERS, so the numbers may differ slightly. And not to forget, check out our very own InC-Score for each character to see where they stand in relation to each other. Do tell us what you think!

IRON MAN

First, we have Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., who starred in  IRON MAN and IRON MAN 2 (2010), both directed by Jon Favreau. IRON MAN 3, directed by Shane Black, is expected to be released in 2013.

Brief Character History:
Iron Man is the superhero alter ego of Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and engineer who loves women and the limelight, whose lifestyle and behaviour sometimes border on the eccentric. Stark creates a powerful and high-tech armoured suit to save his life after he suffers a very serious chest injury during a kidnapping when his captors attempt to force him to build a weapon of mass destruction. He later improves and uses the suit to save the world as Iron Man. (Vote for Iron Man in our InCinemas Poll here!)

THOR
Next, we have Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, who starred in THOR (2011), directed by Kenneth Branagh. THOR 2, directed by Alan Taylor is expected to be released in 2013.

Brief Character History:
Thor is a god who lives in Asgard, a planetoid far away from Earth. He is exiled to Earth by his father, Odin, after disobeying his orders. His brother Loki ascends to the throne instead after betraying their father. He vows to return to Asgard to confront Loki with his famous Hammer, despite falling in love with Jane Foster, a scientist from Earth. (Vote for Thor in our InCinemas Poll here!)

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Up next is Captain America, played by Chris Evans, who starred in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (2011), directed by Joe Johnston. CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 is expected to be released in 2014.

Brief Character History:
Captain America is the alter ego of Steve Rogers, who volunteers to undergo a military experiment to create the perfect soldier. While starting out as frail and thin, Rogers turns into a muscle man with incredible strength. He wears a costume that bears the motif of the American flag, and arms and defends himself with a strong shield that he can throw around with ease. HULK

In THE AVENGERS, the Hulk will be played by Mark Ruffalo. Previous movies with the Hulk include Lee Ang's HULK (2003) starring Eric Bana, and Louis Leterrier's THE INCREDIBLE HULK (2008), starring Edward Norton. While there is no continuity in the previous 'Hulk' movies with THE AVENGERS, expect to see loads of destructive power unleashed as the green freak of nature vents his anger at anything and everything that is thrown at him.

Brief Character History:
The Hulk is the alter ego of reclusive physician Dr. Bruce Banner. After Banner is accidentally exposed to radiation in his laboratory, he involuntarily transforms into the Hulk, a huge, green monster whose aggression and strength grow with rage, terror, and grief. HAWKEYE

Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, made a cameo appearance in THOR. But judging from THE AVENGERS' theatrical trailer, we are very sure he will have much more screen time in the upcoming Marvel epic!

Brief Character History:
Although Hawkeye does not have a movie to call his own, this much we know about the sharpshooting archer: He is the alter ego of Clint Barton, who runs away from an orphanage to join a carnival. He is trained in archery by a mysterious person called Swordsman. One day, he witnesses Iron Man in action and is inspired to be a costumed superhero... (Vote for Hawkeye in our InCinemas Poll here!)

BLACK WIDOW

Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, appeared in IRON MAN 2, and will be seen in IRON MAN 3. Do also expect more screen time for this deadly and agile assassin in THE AVENGERS!

Brief Character History:
Black Widow is the alter ego of Natasha Romanoff, a Soviet spy, who as a femme fatale, tries to seduce and confront American defence contractor Tony Stark (aka Iron Man). When she eventually defects from the Soviet Union, she joins The Avengers as a costumed heroine. (Vote for the Black Widow in our InCinemas Poll here!)
