10 Most Disappointing Films of 2016

2016 hasn’t been a great year for movies. With many reboots and sequels that didn't live up to their predecessors, others didn’t quite make the mark. In addition, there are a handful of films that we simply expected more, but turned out otherwise. 

 
Here are the 10 disappointing films of 2016.

Bryan Singer’s latest instalment in to the X-Men franchise felt a tad too reused. With that many mutants appearing on screen, one after another, it has become a problem for 20th Century Fox to come up with new and exciting narratives to add to the film series. Thank God for Deadpool!
The late legendary director-actor Garry Marshall had often teamed up with actress Julia Roberts for some of the best rom-com films in history, but even the winning formula pair couldn’t save this sappy and formulaic story.
We definitely thought adding A-listers like Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, together with burly Chris Hemsworth will make an interesting take on the fantastical world of Snow White and the Queens of the ice kingdom; but it seems like no amount of magic could save this prequel.
Perhaps it’s a clear sign that video games should never attempt to transit into film. We thought the massively popular game like ‘Warcraft’ will finally break the curse, but apart from the surprising successful box office from China, it didn’t sit well with audiences worldwide.
Perhaps the most anticipated blockbuster of the year that turned into the most disappointing film of 2016 that had fans really mad about the paper-thin narrative. But thanks for introducing Margot Robbie - Harley Quinn!
Wait, we waited 20 years for this remake? We were very excited when the news about a reboot was announced last year. But despite the improved CGI of aliens wrecking havoc on Earth, the Sci-fi adventure didn’t quite turn out to be an exciting ride after all.
The main issue that movie fans and critics were talking about was the ‘whitewashed’ cast, which contributed to the film’s poor box office results. Although Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler and Brenton Thwaites make good big screen leads, the testosterone-filled genre isn’t one for all.
The names Steven Spielberg and Roald Dahl couldn’t salvage the friendly adaption from a children’s book. Perhaps cinematic legend Spielberg should stick to making big budget war films or monster-eating blockbusters instead.
Just when you thought that pitting two iconic superheroes against each other will be an epic cinematic showdown, the DC film empire showed you just how a shoddy three-hour movie can butcher an otherwise box-office hit.
Disney’s sequel to the eccentric 2010’s Alice in Wonderland is just another ‘try my luck’ for more box office dollars since it claimed over billion dollars despite lukewarm reviews from critics. The colourful and psychedelic visuals no longer becomes a fresh element to entice viewers to catch it in theatres. Let this movie stay in Wonderland.
