3 Reasons why you should catch Paradise in Service!
1) The production costs about NT250 million (approximately SGD10 million) to make. From huge set pieces to costumes, this epic movie has been regarded as the most representative movie of that era! Having watched the movie, I must say, it was a visual feast!
2) This highly-acclaimed movie is selected as this year’s opening film for the 19th Busan International Film Festival. It is based on real historical events in China and Taiwan during the 1950s-1970s. It has received good reviews since its premiere and is seen as one of the anticipated films from Golden Horse winner, Ethan Juan after completing his national service in Taiwan!
3) Yes, if you must know, there is a rather steamy sex scene. I mean, after all the film is said to be Juan's 'most daring performance in his acting career', so you definitely expect something hot from this heart-throb, right?
[About the Movie]
Set in the island Kinmen (often seen as the most dangerous military base because it is geographically close to China), Paradise In Service follows the adventure of Pao (Ethan Juan) who serves his military service in Unit 831 from 1969 to 1972, in preparation for a war that could erupt anytime. Through an unlucky lottery draw result, Pao, a young man in his twenties from Southern Taiwan has to serve the military in the remote and perilous Kinmen. Moreover, he is assigned to the Sea Dragon (ARB), a unit known for the toughest physical training. It never occurs to Pao, however, that the greatest challenge is not his military training but a special task he is later appointed to. He later becomes responsible for managing the Paradise In Service bar, a brothel within the military camp. In this peculiar assignment, Pao vows to keep his virginity against all odds.
The movie also stars Taiwanese beauty Ivy Chen Yi-Han, rising star Regina Wan Qian and the highly-acclaimed Chen Jian-Bin (Best Actor Award at the 2011 Seoul International Drama Awards and Golden Phoenix Awards).
Ethan Juan has risen to fame in recent years, appearing as lead actor in prominent TV series and movies. Upon winning the Best Leading Actor at the 47th Golden Horse Awards based on the role as “Monk” in Monga, it further serves a strong testament to Ethan’s acting skills.
Paradise in Service is slated for release on 6 November 2014 in Singapore!
