Touted as Singapore’s first commercially produced and released Malay film, Banting is a coming-of-age movie that is set to hit theatres on 31 October!
Banting is set in the exciting, rough and tumble world of professional wrestling, and the film, a sports-comedy, chronicles a young Malay woman’s struggle to live her dreams.
Written and directed by award-winning writer/director, M. Raihan Halim, Banting is one of the eight films selected by the Singapore Film Commission for the New Talent Feature Grant in November 2012. It will be screened at various film festivals, including the 34th Hawaiian International Film Festival 2014.

[About Banting]
Raised in a strict Malay household, Yasmin (Izyan Mellyna Ishak) finds the missing passion in her life when she begins to secretly take professional wrestling lessons. But “laying the smackdown” on people is not what Yasmin’s meant to do in life - at least not according to her conservative mother, Halimah (Mastura Ahmad). Director of Banting, M. Raihan Halim, sums up the movie as a coming-of-age film about challenging rules, slamming expectations, and fighting to keep one’s dreams alive.
Banting stars up-and-coming local Malay actors Izyan Mellyna Ishak and Fauzie Laily, as well as veteran actors Osman Zailani, Mastura Ahmad, and Jimmy Taenaka.
