[InC-terview] Kate Tsui on 1st Music gig in SG & the Soundtrack of her Life.

By InCinemas  /  21 Nov 2014 (Friday)

Hong Kong actress Kate Tsui is a definite triple threat: she acts, sings and dances, but when she’s on stage, she would rather be known as a ‘performer’ than a ‘singer’.

“I would say I am more of a performer than a singer. Like most of the other Hong Kong artistes, we act, sing for theme-songs, host, dance and even do martial arts... we are rather versatile.  Though I had performed quite a lot on stage, I don’t consider myself as a true singer.”

She will be representing Hong Kong at tomorrow’s Skechers Sundown Festival where the 7-hour concert will see more than 12 international music acts from South East Asia, including Taiwan’s Chang Chen Yue, Korea’s Cross Gene, Malaysia’s Shila Amzah and local songbird Olivia Ong.

Tsui is no stranger to Singapore, having been here for various awards shows and promotional events but Skechers Sundown Festival marks her first music gig, and calls it ‘nerve-wrecking’.

“I saw the list of singers from other countries and I’m like ‘Oh my God!’ They are so many talented musicians, not just performers but musicians,” she exclaimed. “ It’s pretty nerve-wrecking but I’ll try to stay calm and perform my best tomorrow.”

She added: “I do enjoy performing on stage with a live audience, it’s really fascinating. That’s something you can’t get acting with a camera.”

Besides performing songs in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, Tsui will be putting up a special performance for the fans tomorrow.

When asked to name a soundtrack to best describe her life, she couldn’t decide on one, but said it will be ‘a song from a musical’.

“I haven’t really thought about it but it’ll definitely be a song from a musical as I love music that tells a story,” Tsui said. “I would love to play a character in a musical for I like to act, sing and dance…. that’s my ultimate dream.”

Skechers Sundown Festival will be happening tomorrow, 22 November at the F1 Pit Building, Marina Promenade (next to Singapore Flyer)!
