ScreenSingapore sets to return in June 2012

By InCinemas  /  13 Jun 2011 (Monday)
ScreenSingapore 2011 culminates in the Asia-Pacific Premiere of Larry Crowne with Tom Hanks.

Singapore, 12 June 2011 – ScreenSingapore, the inaugural hybrid cinema event, drew to close today with the host, Media Development Authority (MDA), and organiser, Experia Events, announcing that ScreenSingapore will return in 2012.

The inaugural ScreenSingapore 2011 attracted more than 700 trade attendees, surpassing the original target of 500. It featured a diverse programme that provided rich networking opportunities for different players across the value chain, including financiers, studios, filmmakers, talents, distributors, exhibitors and audiences.

The trade attendees were from 26 countries and took part in the myriad of activities that ScreenSingapore had to offer such as “In Conversation” sessions featuring key leaders in the film industry, the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Masterclass, The Art of Film Producing workshop, Film Finance Forum by Winston Baker, Closed-Door Studio Presentations, Red Carpet Gala Premieres, Gala Premieres & Previews@ScreenSingapore. In all, almost 6,000 people attended the 11 Red Carpet and Gala Premieres and 14 Previews@ScreenSingapore movies.

Apart from industry leaders such as Jim Gianopulos, Jon Landau, Yu Dong, Ashok Amritraj, Shekhar Kapur, Sanford Panitch, Antoine de Clermont-Tonnerre, Xu Lin and Daniel Yun, ScreenSingapore also attracted A-listers featuring the likes of Zhang Ziyi, Lee Byung-Hun, as well as Tom Hanks, who was here to present the Asia-Pacific Premiere of Larry Crowne.

Aubeck Kam, Chief Executive Officer of MDA, said: “The positive feedback from the local
and international film community on the inaugural ScreenSingapore is indicative that we are
headed in the right direction. We are very encouraged by the business opportunities
facilitated by ScreenSingapore and look forward to promoting more of such opportunities at
the next edition of ScreenSingapore.”

Jimmy Lau, Managing Director of Experia Events, added: “The support we have received
from various partners and industry players is a testament to the event’s significance and
value proposition it offers. We are working towards an improved ScreenSingapore 2012 and will continue striving towards establishing Singapore as the gateway between the East and West in the film industry.”

Greg Coote, Chairman of the Board of ScreenSingapore, said: “Local, regional and international players relished ScreenSingapore as a platform to network and establish business ties. With Singapore’s strategic location and resources, together with a burgeoning film community, we can only look forward to more editions of ScreenSingapore that will bring Asia’s film industry to the fore.”
