6 Movies to Watch in September!
By
Flora
/
26 Aug 2016 (Friday)
We can all agree that the 2016’s summer’s crop of movie blockbusters produced a lacklustre performance at the box office, which included some of the most exhausted, uninspired and underwhelming films. While some fared better than expected, let’s hope for a more desirable slate of films this fourth quarter.
September seems like a month of redemption with remakes and adaptations that will excite the kids and adults alike; animated fares and even a nostalgic local film for Singaporeans! Read on for a sneak peek on what are the films opening this month!
Disney’s Pete’s Dragon
- 1 Sep 2016
The fantasy adventure starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley and Robert Redford brings us back to the memories of the 1977 musical film of the same name. Though the story is a little different from the original, this remake is about the friendship between an orphaned boy and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be a dragon.
The Secret Life of Pets
- 1 Sep 2016
Ever wondered what are your pets thinking? Or what in the world are they doing while you’re not home? The new and refreshing comedy, told in a tried and tested talking-animal genre explores just that. The moment we close the front door and leave our dogs, cats and canaries alone in the house, things start to get a little messy.
My Love, Sinema
- 8 Sep 2016
Set in the 1950s, this local film stars Tosh Zhang and Cheryl Wee as the young couple who falls deeply in love with each other, as they discover their passion for films and movies. Inspired by the Italian Classic ‘Cinema Paradiso’,
My Love, Sinema
features a melodious soundtrack, composed by Liang Wern Fook and sung by Zhang.
Sully
- 8 Sep 2016
“This is your captain, brace for impact.”
By the looks of the trailers, Sully has already garnered lots of Oscar buzz, especially around Tom Hanks portrayal as Captain Sully Sullenberger, the real life pilot that saved all 155 lives when he landed on the Hudson River on January 15, 2009. Even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.
The Magnificent Seven
- 22 Sep 2016
Antoine Fuqua’s remake of the 1960 western film of the same name packs a star-studded cast including Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio and Lee Byung-hun. The remake is inspired by the 1954 Japanese classic ‘Seven Samurai’ where each member acquires a specific skill set to help protect a small town’s population from the tyrannical Bouge (Peter Sarsgaard).
Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
- 29 Sep 2016
Think of this like Tim Burton’s take on the X-Men movies but instead of Professor X, you have Eva Green as the ‘school’s’ headmistress and protector of her ‘mutants’, aka peculiar children in this case. But it is Jacob (Asa Butterfield) who discovers the residents of the home and learns about their special powers who eventually realises that he becomes the saviour to them.
