24 Minutes of 'Transformers: The Last Knight': 5 Thoughts

By Freddy  /  08 Apr 2017 (Saturday)

Thanks to United International Pictures, a number of Transformers fans and ourselves were able to see an exclusive 24-minute IMAX footage of the upcoming ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’. It seems to be the first 24 minutes of the film, although I was not sure if any scene was cut from there. We were told that the effects and sounds were unfinished, which is perfectly understandable. The film will only be released in almost three months from now.

Here are 5 thoughts we have on this fifth, and Michael Bay’s last, Transformers film:

1. It is adrenaline-pumping from the start

A lot of action films, including some Transformers films, might take a while to establish the status quo and introduce the characters first before jumping into action. That rule does not apply to this film, who will immediately throw you into robot fights and explosions right from the first few minutes.

2. The Transformers mythology is explored

We know from the end of ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ that Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) left to see the makers. This film will not only explore that but also tells us more about the history of Transformers on Earth, with links to King Arthur and his knights of the round table. Intrigued? So are we.

3. Familiar characters meet the new

The main protagonist is still Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg). He will still be with the Autobots like Bumblebee and Crosshairs (John Dimaggio), among others. But there will also be new players such as Izabella (Isabella Moner), Sir Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins), and Quintessa (Gemma Chan). There will also be a few new transformers, such as Drift (Ken Watanabe). From what we have seen, the new characters fit into the franchise effortlessly.

4. The ‘Transformers’ formula remains

There is a reason why the ‘Transformers’ franchise has its fair share of loyal fans. It knows what its fans want to see and it continually delivers. This film is no exception. Shiny sports cars transforming into alien robots? Check. Robot fights? Check. Good-looking female lead? Check, and we are sure she will be running away from explosions towards the end. Speaking of, explosions? Check.

5. You should watch it in IMAX 3D

This clip was shown before the screening starts, which told us that ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ is the first project to be shot natively in IMAX 3D. Most other films in IMAX 3D were post-processed, but not this one. In fact, it is the only film this year to be shot in IMAX 3D. So if you would ever spend on watching any film in IMAX 3D, you know which one is worth your bucks. From what we have seen alone, we can imagine how awesome the scenes will look in 3D.

'Transformers: The Last Knight' opens in theatres on 22 June 2017.
