Horror movies to watch this August!

By Say Peng  /  25 Jul 2018 (Wednesday)
With Hereditary, Unfriended: Dark Web, The Mermaid: Lake of the Dead currently showing in cinemas, July is a decent month for horror fans.

Great news! August promises to be even better!

Here are 4 horror films to look forward to in August!

1. The Whispering

On their way to the beach, Eun-ha and her friends unexpectedly arrive at a spooky rundown house, where the owner killed his wife and daughter long ago.

Despite warnings from Shaman to stay away from this haunted house, Woo sung plots to broadcast a staged supernatural live show.

When they are shooting, each of his friends disappear one by one after hearing a whisper. And when Eun-ha tries to find her friends, she hears another whisper of somebody she knows…

Granted, this is a July release, but we thought that since it's so late into July, we can still include it in the August lineup.

Release date: 26 July

2. 2359: The Haunting Hour

Following the box office success of 23:59, its sequel 23:59 The Haunting Hour will continue to tell army horror stories.

This time, the movie features a trifecta of horror stories span over different critical eras in the history of Singapore’s National Service.

Release date: 9 August

3. Down a Dark Hall

Kit (AnnaSophia Robb), a difficult young girl, is sent to the mysterious Blackwood Boarding School when her heated temper becomes too much for her mother to handle.

Once she arrives at Blackwood, Kit encounters eccentric headmistress Madame Duret (Uma Thurman) and meets the school’s only other students, four young women also headed down a troubled path.

While exploring the labyrinthine corridors of the school, Kit and her classmates discover that Blackwood Manor hides an age-old secret rooted in the paranormal.

Release date: 9 August

4. The First Purge

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. On the next Independence Day, witness the rise of 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community.

But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

Release date: 22 August

Hope you have a horrifying August!
