New Movies InCinemas This August

Oh yeah! There are two holidays this August, National Day on Thursday 9 August, and Hari Raya Haji on Wednesday 22 August (that is why there are sneak previews for new movies on the eve of the holiday). More holidays means more new movies will be released! So there are more reasons to escape the scorching heat in the comfort of the air-conditioned cinemas. Hooray!

Disney’s Christopher Robin   (opens 2 August)
A grown-up Christopher Robin is reunited with his childhood friends, Winnie the Pooh and pals from the Hundred Acre Wood.
Watch this and transport back to your childhood and relive what it’s like to have fun and being carefree in this world.
 
 
The Darkest Minds   (opens 2 August)
The story takes place in a world where teenagers are feared by adults, and imprisoned because they are developing powers. They subsequently escape from the facility and run for their lives.
The trailer looks surprisingly action-packed with some seriously mind-blowing special effects. Hopefully the movie will not disappoint.

 
The Spy Who Dumped Me   (opens 2 August)
Two best friends are thrown unexpectedly into an international conspiracy after an ex-boyfriend turns out to be a spy.
Features action movie stunts on par with spy thrillers like James Bond and Bourne series, this not-so-serious spy movie is definitely the no-brainer choice for some good laughs.

The Meg   (opens 9 August)
An expert diver is recruited by an oceanographer to save the crew who terrorized at the bottom of the ocean by the “greatest and largest predator of all time” – the megalodon.
We hope to see Jason Statham wrestling, punching and kicking the monster shark right in the face! Woohoo!
 
 
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again   (opens 9 August)
This singing sequel swings back and forth in time as we learn more about the characters in their younger years.
Expect more tears of joy accompanied by renditions of classic songs by Abba.


23:59 The Haunting Hour   (opens 9 August)
3 horror stories, each taking place in different eras (year 1967, 1980s, and present day) in the history of Singapore’s national service. Army ghost stories is always popular and will never grow old.


Alpha   (opens 16 August)
In this prehistoric survival saga, a young man is separated from his hunting clan and must fend off dangerous carnivores with the help of a wolf that he tames.


Mile 22   (opens 16 August)
Mark Wahlberg’s latest collaboration with director Peter Berg is an action-packed thriller about a special agent tasked with smuggling a mysterious policeman with valuable information out of the country. Danger awaits at every turn.
Co-starring Iko Uwais, John Malkovich and Rhonda Rousey.


Big Brother   (opens 16 August)
Donnie Yen in action! The action hero plays a former soldier who becomes a teacher that implements unconventional teaching methods to help the students rise to the top, while fighting the bad guys to protect them.

Crazy Rich Asians   (opens 22 August)
A woman accompanies her boyfriend to his native Singapore for the first time, and discovers, not only is he one of the country’s most eligible bachelors, he is also the favourite son of an obscenely rich family. We are crazy excited to get a glimpse into the life of luxury in this romantic comedy set in Singapore!


The First Purge   (opens 22 August)
Prequel to the horror series that chronicles the decision that allows Americans one night a year where anything goes, including murder.

The Equalizer 2   (opens 30 August)

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies   (opens 30 August)  
In their first theatrical movie featuring the teenage heroes of the popular Cartoon Network series, Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy and Raven, must put aside their dreams of Hollywood stardom on hold and stop the maniacal villain Slade from taking over the world.


Kin   (opens 30 August)
Two brothers go on the run from a killer, with only a mysterious futuristic-looking weapon to protect them in this sci-fi thriller.
