The Meg = Megalodon = Giant Dino Shark

By InCinemas  /  18 Jul 2018 (Wednesday)
‘The Meg’ (short for ‘Megalodon’) is about the return of an actual giant prehistoric shark that is believed to have roamed the oceans millions of years ago. Jason Statham, who plays an expert deep sea rescue diver, is recruited to save the crew of a deep-sea submersible.

Judging by the over-the-top action being teased in the trailer, it looks like this new ‘dinosaur shark’ movie will eat all previous shark movies for breakfast.
Here are 5 shark movies* that ‘The Meg’ will blow out of the water:
(*: We intentionally left out ‘Jaws’ – Steven Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster that started it all and is regarded as the ‘king’ of all shark films. Maybe ‘The Meg’ will eventually be crowned the ‘Godzilla’ of all shark films? We await its release with bated breath.)

Deep Blue Sea
This sci-fi / action / horror thriller’s plot is like ‘Jurassic Park’ but with sharks. It’s also part haunted house, part slasher, and part disaster movie set under the sea. A trio of genetically modified sharks stalks the crew of an underwater research lab in this ridiculous but fun shark suspense thriller.
It’s worth watching just for this scene alone.

Shark Night
A teen-slasher movie with sharks is the best way to describe this movie’s plot. Features lots of jump scares like this one:

Bait
This shark movie is a little different than the others because it’s set in a supermarket. When a tsunami floods a supermarket, two great white sharks gets swept into it too. Co-starring Singapore actors Qi Yuwu and Adrian Pang.
Here’s a sampling of shark-action from the movie:

The Shallows
A surprisingly suspenseful thriller about a surfer babe who is stranded in shark-infested water, and is forced to use her wits and determination to battle the great white shark in order to survive.
Blake Lively anchors (pun intended) the film with a relatable and endearing performance.

47 Meters Down
Two sisters gets stuck in an underwater diving cage as it sinks to the bottom of the ocean and surrounded by sharks. This movie is smart to not show the sharks so much to create more suspense.
We know the sharks will attack, but we don’t know when.
