Zhang Yimou's new film Shadow nominated for Golden Horse!

By Say Peng  /  03 Oct 2018 (Wednesday)

Film still from 'Shadow'

The Zhang Yimou we once knew - the acclaimed director of masterpieces such as 'Red Sorghum' and 'Raise the Red Lantern' - is back!

His new film is 'Shadow'.

Set in China's Three Kingdom's era, 'Shadow' is a martial arts epic that tells the Shakespearean story of a violent and ambitious king who employs a shadow, who looks exactly like him, to try to trick his enemies.

The film stars Deng Chao ('The Mermaid'), Sun Li ('Devil and Angel'), Zheng Kai ('The Great Wall'), and Wang Qianyuan ('Sky Hunter').

'Shadow' premiered at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival last month to rave reviews!

More good news - the film has also garnered 12 nominations, including for Best Film, for this year's Golden Horse Awards, along with Chinese director Bi Gan's 'Long Day's Journey into Night' and the late Chinese director Hu Bo's 'An Elephant Sitting Still'.

The award ceremony will take place in late November.

We wish Zhang Yimou all the best.

'Shadow' will open in cinemas 11 October 2018.
