And the Oscars went to…

This year’s Oscars went on smoothly without a host, getting the stars to introduce and present the awards instead. Hollywood’s biggest day of the year - the 91st Academy Awards saw surprising nods and misses, including a steamy performance of "Shallow" by "A Star Is Born" stars Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Melissa McCarthy
McCarthy took the stage with Brian Tyree Henry to present the Best Costume award. The duo, dressed in over-the-top costumes, gave audiences plenty of laughs, especially with McCarthy in her ‘The Favourite’ outfit, with ‘talking’ rabbits, no less!
"These artists create a pastiche of textiles with authenticity, yet never distract from the story. Costume designers construct the looks that ground a character to a particular time and place in the subtlest of ways," McCarthy said.
May we just say that Melissa McCarthy seems like the very obvious candidate to host next year’s award show?
Bohemian Rhapsody
The Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody took home the most number of awards, including Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Actor for Rami Malek. To top it all, Queen and Adam Lambert opened the show with an explosive performance!
Olivia Colman
The charming and most adorable acceptance speech goes to Olivia Colman who won the Best Actress for her role in ‘The Favourite’. Clearly shocked at her win, Colman delivered such a hilarious and frankly, the cutest speech in Oscar history. She not only dedicated her award to director Yorgos Lanthimos and costars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, she also gave a shoutout to fellow nominees Glenn Close and Lady Gaga!
Shallow
No surprise there, that Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s ‘A Star is Born’ duet, “Shallow” won the Best Original Song. The duo also performed live which blew the audience - and those watching through our screens - away.
Their chemistry is undeniably flawless and we couldn’t help but ‘ship’ these two during their performance of the powerful ballad.
Black Panther

Wakanda Forever!! Black Panther is the first Marvel Studios picture to ever win an Oscar. Not only did the superhero flick earned 7 Oscar nominations including a Best Picture nod, the movie walked away with 3 awards namely, Best Original Music Score, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Along with making Marvel history, Ruth Carter is the first African-American woman to ever win in the Costume Design category.
Roma

Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma seemed like a sure-win for many of its nominated categories, and a hot favourite for the Best Picture win. Although the Mexican filmmaker didn’t bring home the Best Picture award for Roma, he walked away with the Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography awards.
Roma is the ninth movie from Mexico to be nominated, and the first to win the Oscar for foreign language film, according to the Academy Awards. Cuaron directed, written and shot the film, which makes him the first DP (director of photography) to score an Academy Award for a movie he also directed.
