The 5 Oscar's Picks for Best Original Song

Black Panther, R.B.G., Mary Poppins Returns, A Star Is Born and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs have all earned themselves an Oscar nomination in the coveted 'Best Original Song' category that has been awarded to songs such as 'Let it Go' (Frozen), 'Skyfall' (Skyfall), 'My Heart Will Go On' (Titanic), 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' (The Lion King) and so on.

Lady Gaga, who has been on a winning streak with her A Star Is Born hit, 'Shallow', will go head to head with some interesting competition in this year's mixed bag of nominees, which include first-time nominee Kendrick Lamar and 10-time nominee Diane Warren.

I'll Fight (written by Dianne Warren, performed by Jennifer Hudson)

'I'll Fight' is an anthemic ballad written for the documentary film R.B.G., by Diane Warren and performed by Jennifer Hudson. The nomination marks Warren's tenth time competiting in this category. Her previous nominations inlcude her work in Armageddon ('There You'll Be'), Pearl Harbour ('I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing'), and Marshall ('Stand Up For Something'), to name a few. No stranger to powerhouse ballads or the Oscars herself, Hudson is an Academy Award-winner, winning the 'Best Supporting Actress' award for her role as Effie White in Dreamgirls.

When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings (written by David Rawlings and Gillian Welch, performed by Willie Watson and Tim Blake Nelson)

'When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings' is a bittersweet country track sung by Willie Watson and Tim Blake Nelson, both of whom appear in the Coen Brothers' anthology film, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The track is written by long-time collaborators David Rawlings and Gillian Welch and this Oscar nomination is their first. Welch had previously won a Grammy for Album of the Year for her work in O Brother, Where Art Thou?

All The Stars (written by Kendrick Lamar, Sounwave, SZA and Anthony Tiffith, performed by Kendrick Lamar and SZA)

'All The Stars' is the hit single from the Black Panther soundtrack and has been dominating the music scene ever since its release. That's no surprise considering the track is a joint work of artists with multiple Grammy awards and nominations between them. The song itself is up for several Grammys, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year! This is Kendrick Lamar, Sounwave, SZA and Anthony Tiffith's first Oscar nomination.

The Place Where Lost Things Go (written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, performed by Emily Blunt)

'The Place Where Lost Things Go' is a song from the Mary Poppins Returns soundtrack, written by frequent collaborators who have worked on projects such as the Tony-winning musical Hairspray as well as recent Broadway adaptations of Catch Me If You Can and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The song is sung by Emily Blunt who plays the titular character.

Shallow (written by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt, performed by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga)

The front-runner of this race, 'Shallow' has already won a Golden Globe and Critics' Choice award. The country ballad is written by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. It is performed by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's characters Jackson and Ally in the film A Star Is Born.
