The 'Suicide Squad' Sequel has a new Deadshot
By

Idris Elba has reportedly been sought to take over Will Smith's role as Deadshot in the upcoming sequel to 2016's
Suicide Squad
. Elba is no stranger to the superhero movie franchise, having already played Heimdall the watcher of the Bifrost for five MCU films. With this switch, he will join a line of fellow actors who have starred in more than one superhero film of different universes.
The role of Deadshot was up for grabs when Will Smith announced he was dropping out due to scheduling conflicts. Having lost such star power for the sequel, Warner Bros. had to act fast to find a suitable replacement before production begins in September.
If you're worried Idris Elba won't be able to fill Smith's shoes, fret not. The actor is currently one of the most in-demand at the moment, having starred in the
Fast and Furious
spin-off
Hobbs & Shaw
and a live-action of the musical
Cats
, both of which have release dates later this year. You may also find him in
Turn Up Charlie
, a Netflix comedy series that is set to premiere on March 15.
The
Suicide Squad
sequel has yet to officially announce the return of the rest of the original cast that consists of Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevigne to name a few, but it does have a
writer and director on board
,
Guardians of the Galaxy
's very own James Gunn.
Do you think Idris Elba has what it takes to be the world's greatest marksman? Only time will tell.
The film is currently set for an August 6, 2021 release.
