Martin Scorsese's The Irishman launches trailer

By Say Peng  /  05 Aug 2019 (Monday)

As equally anticipated as Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is Martin Scorsese's The Irishman.

The film boasts nothing short of a spectacular cast. Long-time collaborators Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, and Joe Pesci star in the film, and it's the first time that Al Pacino appears in a Scorsese film. It's an explosive combo.

Based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses, the film charts the epic rise and fall of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a labour union official with intimate ties to the mob.

It has been Scorsese's passion project for decades. It finally went into production in 2017.

A lot of the film's ballooning budget - escalating from US$100 million to US$200 million - went into the visual effects needed to de-age De Niro, Pesci, and Pacino by some 30 years.

The Irishman is Scorsese's most expensive film.

The Irishman will have its world premiere as the opening film at the 2019 New York Film Festival.

It will then be available to watch on Netflix in late 2019 after a theatrical run: https://www.netflix.com/sg/title/80175798
