Warner Bros makes big changes to its slate of movies

Following the announcement of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic Dune getting bumped off the release schedule this year, a flurry of other Warner Bros. films also saw their release dates being pushed further back.

Dune

Denis Villeneuve's big budget film was set to nab the December-time box office this year but seemingly after Universal decided to pull out its moneymaker from this year's release schedule, Warner Bros decided to do the same with theirs.

Dune, starring an ensemble cast that include Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin, will now roll into cinemas in October 2021.

Matrix 4

It's not all bad news though as Keanu Reeves' Matrix comeback sees its debut being moved up from April 2022. Carrie-Anne Moss is also expected to return for the sequel with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris and Jessica Henwick joining the cast. The film is co-written and directed by Lana Wachowski, who had co-directed and co-written the previous three films with her sister Lilly.

Matrix 4 will now open in cinemas in December 2021.

The Batman

Seeing as Dune stole its October slot, Matt Reeve's The Batman has been pushed further down the schedule and will now occupy the slot that was initially held by the big screen version of videogame Minecraft which is now left undated.

The Batman will fly in cinemas in March 2022.

Other notable changes that were made to the DC films in Warner Bros' slate are mainly production related. Andy Muschietti’s The Flash will zoom into cinemas in November 2022 while David Sandberg’s Shazam! 2: Fury of the Gods will open in June 2023. Dwayne Johnson's upcoming antihero movie Black Adam is now temporarily undated as production will only begin early next year. The movie was initially set to open in cinemas in December 2021.

It should be highlighted that despite announcing delays, Warner Bros chose to maintain Wonder Woman 1984's Christmas 2020 slot. But anything can happen from now til then. We can only hope for the situation to get better or we'll keep seeing news of movies getting delayed.
