Celebrate 40 years of James Cameron’s genre-defining sci-fi classic, 'The Terminator', at The Projector!

By InCinemas  /  23 Sep 2024 (Monday)

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Terminator (1984) at The Projector!

The Oscar-winning director James Cameron’s science fiction classic starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn. It was hailed by critics as a benchmark science fiction film and earned 8 festival wins and 7 nominations. The Terminator catapulted a then-unknown Austrian bodybuilder to global fame and captivated audiences across the world.

According to The Terminator (1984), 2024 should be the year that artificial intelligence takes over the world. Seems only fitting that The Projector is holding a special 40th anniversary screening of the film, with a stunning new 4K restoration of the original 35mm film negatives supervised by director James Cameron!

In a 1991 behind-the-scenes retrospective featured on a special edition VHS, Schwarzenegger and Cameron reflected on The Terminator's lasting impact. Having won Best Science Fiction Film at the 1985 Saturn Awards, the film transcended the typical action genre, captivating a broad audience and offering something for everyone. Cameron noted how the film's fame skyrocketed when it aired on television:

Every year that went by without a sequel, the demand for it just grew greater.

In that same feature, Schwarzenegger and Cameron discussed their groundbreaking makeup and prosthetics approach, involving complex mechanisms and artificial eyes. The makeup director assured Schwarzenegger that while challenging, it was achievable with patience. Compared to modern CGI films, this movie’s genuine special effects continue to stand out as a classic.

The Terminator will be available exclusively at The Projector for limited screenings on 22 September and 2 & 11 October. Book your tickets here.
