Meryl Streep stars in the titular role in Florence Foster Jenkins, based on the true story of the famous socialite who was known to be a terrible opera singer but fulfilled her dream of performing at Carnegie Hall.
For the 1940s New York heiress, Florence, she thinks she has a great voice, claims ‘music is my life’ and even proposed to hold a public concert at the famous Carnegie Hall. Thanks to the people around her including her pianist (Simon Helberg), manager St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant) and her family for covering the secret, Florence thinks she has it in the bag.
It’s essentially a film about overcoming all odds to pursue your dream; but on the other hand, it does give off a slight undertone that ‘money makes the world go round’, does it?
