Weekend Box Office - Limitless Tops Weekend of Limited Excitement

By InCinemas  /  21 Mar 2011 (Monday)

Despite the arrival of the first day of spring, things weren't exactly coming up roses for the box office this weekend. Three new arrivals made mediocre entrances as overall sales continue to slip.

Limitless snagged the number one spot with $19 million. That's not terrible news for the movie itself since it's on track to turn a quick profit against a $27 million budget. It is, however, bad news for the box office in general. Year-to-date box office cash totals haven't been this low in four years, but looking at overall ticket sales things are on track for theaters to see the lowest number of butts in seats in nearly two decades.

Crime Drama The Lincoln Lawyer battled it out with quirky alien comedy Paul for fourth and fifth place behind last week's toppers Rango and Battle: Los Angeles. Lincoln Lawyer won with $13.4 million, forcing Paul to number five with a close $13.1 million.
