By InCinemas / 01 Sep 2014 (Monday)
Put Hong Kong funnyman Chapman To and local comedian Mark Lee together, who will emerge top as the king of comedy?
In upcoming film directed by Adrian Teh, King Of Mahjong, To and Lee play mahjong rivals under the same mentor, played by Eric Tsang. Lead actress Michelle Ye will star alongside the two actors as To’s ex-wife. During the media conference held last week, it was clear that the cast had forged a strong rapport as they continuously joked and teased one another.
“During our first encounter, we weren’t familiar with each other so we both pretended to be very polite and cultured. After a while, I couldn’t take it and told him to stop pretending and be himself,” said Lee.
“So I did and stop pretending! And everything came out, which was all vulgarities,” To joked.
The team started filming in Ipoh, before heading to Kuala Lumpur and finally in Singapore, which wrapped a few days ago. To mentioned they ate a lot in Malaysia, from curry noodles to seafood.
“Our mouths never stop,” quipped Lee, to which To playfully replied “Yes, I didn’t read the script; I read the menu instead!”
When asked what To would remember most from Singapore, he playfully cited ‘Mark Lee’ and ‘durians’!
“He loves durians! He had been eating since we arrived in Malaysia all the way to Singapore,” Lee laughed.
King Of Mahjong, Singapore’s first mahjong-themed movie also stars Cheronna Ng, Venus Wong, Adrian Tan, Patricia Mok, Dennis Chew and Richard Low, is slated to be released in early 2015.
