Go Go Power Rangers!
Entertainment Weekly released the first photo of the Power Rangers new costumes for the upcoming movie reboot, and the Internet can’t help talking about it.
Colours of the Rangers remains the same, but goodbye Spandex, and hello to Iron Man-like metal costumes. How are these supposedly teenagers able to move and fight around with the heavy-looking armour around their bodies?
Oh wait, take a look at Pink and Yellow Rangers’ ‘boob armour’. Seriously, is there a need to emphasize on women’s breasts in action crime-busting films, especially in modern times today? To add to how sexist these costumes are, the lady-rangers are in heels! Well, wedges to be exact. We couldn’t accept how Bryce Dallas Howard managed to outrun the T-Rex in her insanely high heels, and so we expect to think it’s perfectly A-OK for Pink and Yellow Ranger kicking butts with these uncomfortable and unrealistic footwear?
For the naysayers, this writer included, here’s what the production designer has to say.
"You can't win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans," production designer Andrew Menzies told Entertainment Weekly.
For the record, we embraced the edgy look of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.
Starring singer Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy, the Power Rangers Movie is slated to open March 2017!
