China’s Hit Fantasy-Drama ‘Go Princess Go’ to Premiere on cHK on the 16th!

By Flora  /  13 May 2016 (Friday)

Go Princess Go is based on a web novel of the same name, and premiered in December 2015 on LeTV,  one of the largest online video companies in China. The periodical drama series became a hit with its viewers, garnering more than US$1.5 million in profit, 50,000 paid subscribers, 2.2 million new memberships, and had over 2.4 billion views in total.

The series was regarded as an entertaining comedy, which themes include time travel, bisexuality and gender identity.

With China’s recent strict censorship against its broadcasting content, Go Princess Go was taken offline about a month later by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT). Many speculated that it was because of the provocative themes and time-travelling elements in it. Last year, TV soap opera The Empress of China made headlines when it was asked to remove all the shots of women’s cleavage which was deemed ‘too sexy’.

The series which stars Crystal Zhang, Peter Sheng and Alan Yu, tells a story about a modern day playboy who travels back 1,000 years in time and gets trapped inside the body of a princess in ancient China.

For the Singapore audience, don’t miss this chance to catch the light-hearted comedy starting next Monday, 16 May 2016, cHK (Singtel Channel 510) subscribers will be able to catch the exclusive airing of this drama at 10pm.
