We’re nearing the end of the summer blockbuster season, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t good and exciting movies to look forward to. From the sequels and reboots to critically-acclaimed films, July is set to be an exciting month to spend some downtime at the cinemas!
Not forgetting the two Asian star tours (
Cold War 2
,
At Cafe 6
) in Singapore for you to catch a glimpse of your idols!
Here are 5 not to be missed movies opening in July!
Disney's Alice through the Looking Glass
(Opening InCinemas: 6 July)
Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass
is the sequel to the 2010 film
Alice in Wonderland
that generated over $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales. The upcoming adventure film stands out for its psychedelic and colourful visual, on top of the top-notch actors returning for the sequel.
Starring Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter, and features the voices of Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Alan Rickman, in his final film role.

The Handmaiden
(Opening InCinemas: 7 July)
One of the most talked-about films in Korea,
The Handmaiden
is an erotic thriller that was selected to compete for the coveted Palme d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Adapted from the novel 'Fingersmith' by Welsh writer Sarah Waters, The Handmaiden, directed by award-winning Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) became Korea’s No.1 rated-R film with the most opening week viewers and ranked top in box office.
Rating of the film is not out yet, but we are dead-sure it’s going to be an R21 rating for its homosexual theme. Let’s just hope there won’t be any cuts in it.

Cold War 2
(Opening InCinemas: 8 July)
The 2012 action blockbuster
Cold War 寒战
was a box office success in Asia and internationally, achieving over US$50 million worldwide. Fans and avid followers are anticipating the much talked-about sequel
Cold War 2
which not only stars returning cast members Aaron Kwok, Tony Leung and Eddie Peng, Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun Fat joins the ensemble as a senior counsel involved in the high profile case.

Ghostbusters
(Opening InCinemas: 14 July)
Who you gonna call? Singapore welcomed director Paul Feig and one of the funniest woman in Hollywood, Melissa McCarthy two weeks ago where we also
set the Guinness World Records
for the ‘Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Ghosts at a Single Venue’!
“I love working with funny women. Why the original worked was because of those four ghostbusters who were at that time, the funniest people working together. All I said is that I needed to create that chemistry here, and I know the funniest women on the planet… and that’s the only agenda I had - to make people laugh,” said
Feig at the press conference
earlier this month.
While some die-hard fans of the 1984 original might be skeptical about this reboot, we’re honestly waiting impatiently for it to open in theatres!

Star Trek Beyond
(Opening InCinemas: 21 July)
It comes as no surprise to learn that the beloved Starship Enterprise is going to be destroyed in the newest Star Trek franchise,
Star Trek Beyond
. We’re as sad as Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) to watch the U.S.S Enterprise shatter to pieces, but with Justin Lin (Fast & Furious franchise) helming the movie, expect thrilling big-scale action, as well as intense, sentimental sequences.
Star Trek Beyond
also stars Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Anton Yelchin (Chekov) and John Cho (Sulu).
